Yuletide 2025 Dear Author Letter
Oct. 14th, 2025 10:23 pmGreetings! This is my second year doing Yuletide, and I’m excited to be back!
I nominated five fandoms: one from theater, two novels, a video game, and a short animated film. I made promo posts for all of them, all of which can be found on page 8 of the promo thread, direct links below:
I tend to prefer Gen fics, but I’m not against romance where it’s relevant, and if you’re in the mood to write some smut, I’m not opposed. When it comes to romance/smut, I much prefer sticking to relationships found in established canon. I also enjoy reader-insert style romance/smut, though I am much more particular about what fandoms/characters I want for this, and I generally prefer this to be written in the third person with an OC rather than in the second person. I don’t really read M/M, unless, again, it’s already part of established canon. I don’t have a problem with darker themes like violence, rape, or mental illness - if you are comfortable exploring those, go for it, but they’re absolutely not required! I like drama and angst, but I also enjoy comedy. I love worldbuilding and character studies. I’d prefer to avoid AUs or any attempts to integrate real world issues (i.e. politics) into the world of the fandom. I’m not into genderbending or any other explorations of gender and sexuality. I welcome treats, if anyone is so inclined to offer one!
Optional: If and only if you feel compelled to offer smut, here is a short list of some of my biggest kinks: rape, objectification, obsession, D/s, free use, bondage, public use, monstrous body parts, mindfucking, humiliation, degradation, pain, group participation, predicaments and equipment, and bad endings. That said, this dark tone is not required if it does not fit the tone of the established canon relationship. I enjoy fluff, pining, and love where it makes sense for the pairing! As mentioned above, I don’t read much M/M smut, but almost any other permutation of gender pairings (M/F, F/F, M/F/M, and etc.) is fine by me. (Essentially, I like for there to be at least one woman involved, and for her to preferably be the center of the action.)
You can find my AO3 here: Spectrophile0
Without any further ado, my requests! (None of the suggestions below are required prompts - feel free to simply take them as inspiration):
Sleep No More
Characters: Hecate, The Porter, J. Fulton, Speakeasy Bartender
DNW: explicit smut (sexual undertones are fine)
Now that the McKittrick in NYC has officially closed, I would be delighted if someone were to write for this fandom and revisit it with me. I’d love to see some worldbuilding or character studies here. I'm particularly interested in Hecate and her relationships with her various followers: the Porter, the Speakeasy Bartender, and the three witches. The Porter is a character I absolutely love, and I’d love to see some focus on him. Give him angst, comfort, fluff, or something else! Explore his relationships with the witches, or Hecate, or even Fulton, who pops down to the lobby once in a while. I'm also interested in the character of Fulton and how he resists the lure of the witches, or maybe fails to do so. Inclusion of elements of folk magic or modern witchcraft would be very appreciated here. Other characters from the show can be integrated if you so choose, especially any of the witches or the taxidermist, but these four are my top picks. Don’t feel obligated to use ALL of them, but any one or any combination thereof is great. I'd love it if the setting itself played a big role in the story, as if the McKittrick Hotel was itself a character. It’s such a dynamic setting and has a lot of possibilities. The high street and the hotel lobby are the most compelling settings to me, but I welcome an appearance from any place in the McKittrick.
House of Leaves
Characters: Will Navidson, Zampanò, Johnny Truant, Editor
DNW: nothing, go wild
This novel plays beautifully with the possibilities of prose, and I would love to see you get weird with it. I am most interested in the interplay between the different layered narrators in the story: Navidson, Zampanò, Johnny, and even the Editor of the book. If you feel compelled to try, you could even include the reader themself. How they talk to each other, their back and forths in the footnotes, the way their narratives nest into each other. What is each individual person’s relationship to the house, to each other, to themselves? How does the house exert its influence through each narrator on the next? Play with time, play with space, play with linearity if you want to. I would also be interested in worldbuilding involving the house and playing around with those infinite possibilities. What goes on inside those ashen walls when no one is there? What strange things might not have been recorded on film, in text, in memory?
(This is one fandom where I would be intrigued to see what you might come up with if you were to experiment with smut. If you do, I would love to see the house itself play a big part in that. Get non-euclidean with it. Feel free to send in an OC or any of our existing cast of characters. Make it dreamlike or fantastical or terrifying. As always, smut is optional and not expected.)
Ghost Hunters Adventure Club
Characters: Dr. Cecil H.H. Mills, J.J. Watts, Valentine Watts, Trudi de la Rosa
DNW: explicit smut
I would love to see someone playing with the metafictional aspects of the book, exploring how Dr. Cecil and his characters interact, how his presence influences the world, and how the characters might respond to it. If you choose to incorporate the events of the second book, how’s Dr. Cecil faring after the wild finale? How do the characters deal with the knowledge that they are in a novel? What would happen if Dr. Cecil were to get a little more involved in the plot? And what comes next for Dr. Cecil and his creations? As with my other prompts, feel free to get weird with it. I love stories that play with perspective, narrative, and linearity. If you feel the desire, you are welcome to try a crossover fic with some other fandom I am interested in - any of the fandoms in my other prompts are fair game, along with the various fandoms I’ve written for in my AO3 account. You could also try some more mainstream works, like Sherlock Holmes and other classic detectives, horror monsters like Dracula, anything with a hint of mystery or ghosts to hunt. How does Dr. Cecil feel about other characters intruding upon his story, or his own characters straying out of his? Can the GHAC handle a mystery that isn’t in Dr. Cecil’s control?
Phasmophobia
Characters: Player, Shade, The Mimic, Phantom
DNW: nothing, go wild
This fandom is well suited to a reader insert character - the Player can be any generic amateur ghost hunter, either solo or as part of a team, on their way to explore the haunted property. I would be excited to read about any particular hauntings the players experience, whether scary or spooky or silly. I would also love stories written from the ghost’s perspective. How did the ghost wind up dead and bound to haunt this house? What does the ghost think and feel while they prowl around and hunt the hunters? What does the ghost even want? The Shade is my favorite type of ghost, and I would be excited if the story featured a shade, but I would be intrigued by any kind of haunting. I named three ghosts above, but there is no pressure to include all of them. That said, a haunting featuring multiple ghosts could be intriguing. How did they wind up sharing a haunt? Are they allies, enemies, or coexisting neutrally? What does the ghost hunt look like when trying to track down multiple ghosts? Any tone is welcome here, from comedy to horror, or a blend of both!
(Also, ghostly smut could be fun. If you feel inspired to write about a particularly lustful ghost and what that kind of haunting might look like, feel free. Do the ghosts use their own bodies, or do they manipulate items from around the house? Are they malicious and violent, or just lonely in the afterlife? As always, smut is optional and not expected.)
World of Tomorrow
Characters: Emily Prime, Third-Generation Emily, Worldbuilding
DNW: explicit smut
I am most interested in worldbuilding for this fandom. I am fascinated by the depiction of a future lived entirely in service of perpetuating one’s existence. What other pockets of the Outernet can we explore? What happens to our consciousnesses as we endeavor to sustain them beyond the limits of our lives? As I like to say, get weird with it. There is a whole world of futuristic strangeness to explore. What kind of school life does a young clone enjoy? What is it like to parent your own clone? What do people eat, how do they live, what do they do for fun? The tone of the film is darkly comedic, and I would love to maintain that tone. Perspectives from Emily Prime, Third Generation Emily, or any other Emily are welcome. How does Emily Prime feel after meeting her future self? What was it like for Third Generation Emily to fall in love with a rock?
Very excited to see what folks come up with! Have fun, and thank you for writing!
